Off the Wall
Last week, the screaming began at 1:20 pm. Thursday. Screaming is not abnormal at our house, we have three little boys. What is unusual is that only one of them was home at the time. Curly was supposed to be napping. Ha. Usually, I give it a few minutes and he calms down and goes to sleep. Not this time. The yelling got louder and involved actual words. Apparently, his blanket was making him bleed. Now, he chews on his blanket, so that could have been the cause. In my mind, I thought "quit chewing on it and go to sleep, then!" Mommy guilt got the better of me, and I went upstairs to check. Good thing I did. Friends, the child had attached himself to the wall, via blanket. What. The. Fuck. He had tossed his blanket up in the air and gotten it hooked on the remainder of a curtain rod that used to display his quilt (before he pulled it off the wall.) It had remained in the wall because it's screwed into a stud and we can't get it out. His little fingers were wrapped so tightly in the blanket that he was cutting off circulation, I could not unwind it. I also couldn't disconnect the blanket because I couldn't reach where it was hooked. He was upset...semi-hysterical. I was caught between trying not to laugh and trying not to yell. I tried in vain to set him free for a few minutes, then gave up and went for the scissors. I love this child. He is my mini-me in so many ways. He's going to kill me, though.
